Rabbit Medicine

Our Animal Kin have so much medicine for us. My Rabbits have taught me so much about the importance of play, rest, nurturing, nourishment, nervous system regulation, co-regulation, support, sisterhood, and motherhood.

Motherhood

My Rabbits first pregnancy was unexpected. She was only a few months old, and we didn’t realize she was pregnant until the day she delivered 😳! She had 4 babies that day, unfortunately 2 of them were stillborn and the other 2 didnt make it past a week. πŸ˜ͺ

See, she was a young first time mom and didn’t know what to do. We were first time bunny grandparents and didnt know how to support her with her first litter.

Her first pregnancy made me realize that they aren’t so different from us. They also require care, and support from a loving community as they learn how to be mothers and learn how to nurture and provide for their young.

I wondered if Rabbit moms also go through post partum depression as sometimes they seem to reject their litter. But this is our role as Earth Keepers is to know and understand our animal kin and help them provide for their young so that they can thrive in a healthy community and environment πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

Her second pregnancy and litter went so much better! We were ready! We knew how to make her comfortable and keep her well fed and hydrated so that she could successfully nurse the babies the first few weeks. She ate a lot! πŸ˜… The baby bunnies grew and thrived! She was so different this time. She was so loving and nurturing, and not at all disconnected as she was the first time. Do you see how Mothers can show up differently when they are supported, when they have the resources and means to provide for their children, and are not in a constant state of survival mode!? My heart feels full watching her with her children, and I can feel the love she has for them with every snuggle. πŸ’•πŸ‡

Sisterhood

This second littler also taught me about sisterhood and community. I believe one of the biggest reasons this litter survived and thrived is because they had each other!

When the bunnies from the first litter died I believe its because when their mother didnt know what to do, and did not appear interested in caring for them, they had no one to keep them warm. πŸ’”

This second litter thrived because when their mom needed a break, they kept each other warm. 😍

And to this day the baby bunnies always gather around each other to keep each other warm, they help keep each other clean, and play with each other.

They aren't much different than us, for we too thrive when we are surrounded by supportive loving community. πŸ™πŸ«Ά
